KATHMANDU (Oct 11) — At least two people were killed and six others injured in a mudslide in Nepal’s Madhesh province on Saturday morning, police said.
The incident occurred around 8:30 am in Simraungadh Municipality of Bara district, when a group of locals were digging near a pond to collect soil for household use.
According to police, a 70-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy were buried alive under the collapsing soil. Rescue teams managed to pull out six others with injuries, who were later taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, as heavy rainfall in recent days has made several areas across southern Nepal prone to landslides and mudslides.
