NEW DELHI (Oct 15) – Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa in New Delhi on Tuesday, reaffirming the deep-rooted cultural and strategic partnership between the two nations.
The meeting, held at Hyderabad House, was marked by warm exchanges and symbolic gestures, including the joint planting of a sapling—signifying shared commitment to sustainability and friendship.
Earlier in the day, President Ukhnaa laid a wreath at Rajghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, accompanied by members of the Mongolian delegation. He also signed the visitors’ book and received a bust and a book on Gandhi as a token of respect.
President Ukhnaa, who arrived in Delhi on Monday for a four-day state visit, was welcomed with a Guard of Honour and received at the airport by Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol.
On Monday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met the visiting leader and lauded his “warm sentiments” on advancing the India-Mongolia strategic partnership, noting the “deep civilizational and democratic values” shared by both nations.
Ukhnaa’s delegation includes Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, senior officials, business leaders, and cultural representatives. This marks his first visit to India as Head of State.
India and Mongolia established diplomatic ties in 1955, and the relationship has since evolved into a comprehensive partnership spanning defence, energy, mining, education, healthcare, information technology, and cultural exchange.
The visit is expected to pave the way for new agreements in energy cooperation and digital innovation, reinforcing Mongolia’s role as a key partner in India’s extended neighbourhood policy.
