Over 300 Children with Special Needs Adopted in 2024–25: WCD Ministry

The WCD ministry reported 313 adoptions of special needs children in 2024–25, with CARA launching a campaign to promote awareness ahead of National Adoption Awareness Month.

New Delhi, Oct 1 (PTI) – The Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD) said on Wednesday that 313 children with special needs were adopted during the 2024–25 financial year, including 83 domestic adoptions and 230 inter-country adoptions.

The announcement coincided with the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) launching awareness activities ahead of National Adoption Awareness Month 2025, which is observed in November.

This year’s campaign highlights the “Non-Institutionalized Rehabilitation of Children with Special Needs (Divyaang Children)”, aiming to encourage adoption, break prevailing misconceptions, and showcase the happiness that adoption brings to both children and families, the ministry said in a statement.
