NEW YORK/ISLAMABAD, Sept 26 – US President Donald Trump on Thursday met Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir at the White House to discuss regional security, counter-terrorism cooperation, and bilateral ties, according to official statements.
Shehbaz, the first Pakistani premier to visit the White House in six years, praised Trump as a “man of peace” for his “courageous and decisive leadership” in facilitating a ceasefire between Pakistan and India.
The meeting comes against the backdrop of previous tensions under former PM Imran Khan, who in July 2019 visited Washington amid Trump’s accusations that Pakistan provided safe havens to terrorists despite receiving billions in US aid.
While details of Thursday’s discussions remain limited, officials hinted at talks covering Afghanistan’s stability, counter-terrorism efforts, and economic cooperation.
