KATHMANDU, Sept. 15: Three newly appointed ministers in Nepal’s caretaker government led by Prime Minister Sushila Karki were sworn in on Monday, expanding the interim Cabinet tasked with steering the country toward elections within six months.
The ministers include former Nepal Electricity Authority CEO Kulman Ghising, widely credited for ending the country’s long-running power cuts. President Ramchandra Paudel administered the oath at the President’s Office, Sheetal Niwas, which was partially damaged during the recent violent protests.
Due to the damage, the ceremony was held under a tent on the premises.
With the new appointments, the Cabinet now has four members, including Prime Minister Karki, who will temporarily oversee the remaining ministerial portfolios until further appointments are made.
The interim government was formed after mass youth-led protests on September 8 forced the resignation of former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli, marking a major shift in Nepal’s political landscape.
