Nepal restricts night travel on BP and Mid-Hill Highways amid flood, landslide risks

Nepal’s Sindhuli administration has banned night travel on BP and Mid-Hill Highways on October 30–31 due to flood and landslide risks from continuous rainfall.

SINDHULI, NEPAL (Oct 30): The District Administration Office (DAO), Sindhuli has imposed an overnight travel ban on the BP Highway and Mid-Hill Highway due to heightened risks of floods and landslides triggered by continuous rainfall.

According to the DAO notice, vehicular movement toward Kathmandu from Khurkot Bazar on the BP Highway will be prohibited between 5:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. on October 30 and 31. The district has been placed on high alert for potential floods and landslides during this period.

The DAO urged motorists to avoid travel during rainfall, especially at night, except in emergencies. “The restriction aims to prevent accidents, property damage, and loss of life amid the ongoing heavy rains and possible natural hazards,” the notice said.

Assistant Chief District Officer Anuj Bhandari stated that vehicles may also be halted during the daytime if rainfall intensifies. “The safety of travelers is our top priority. We have instructed authorities to enforce the restrictions strictly,” he added.

Continuous rainfall in central Nepal over the past few days has raised fears of landslides and road blockages along major highways connecting hilly districts to the capital.
