EU Delegation to Visit Bangladesh on September 16-18 to Assess Reforms, Human Rights

EU Parliament delegation to visit Bangladesh to assess political reforms, human rights, and governance under interim government.

Dhaka, September 10: A five-member delegation from the European Parliament will visit Bangladesh from September 16 to 18 to assess political reforms, human rights, and governance issues amid the country’s ongoing political transition, the EU mission in Dhaka announced on Tuesday.

The delegation includes Mounir Satouri, Chair of the Human Rights Subcommittee; Isabel Wiseler-Lima; Arkadiusz Mularczyk; Urmas Paet; and Catarina Vieira, representing multiple European political groups.

During the visit, the members will meet representatives of the interim government, civil society groups, and multilateral organisations to discuss human rights, electoral reforms, and good governance. The team will also hold talks with non-governmental and labour organisations and visit Rohingya refugee camps to assess humanitarian needs.

Bangladesh has been under an interim government led by Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Muhammad Yunus since the fall of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina following the violent 2024 protests. The administration has launched reforms targeting the electoral system, judiciary, and key institutions while resuming negotiations with the EU on a new Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA).

EU officials said the delegation seeks to understand the interim government’s efforts on governance, labour standards, and human rights, as well as the scope for strengthening EU-Bangladesh cooperation.
