The assurance was conveyed during a bilateral meeting between Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath and visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, according to officials from Sri Lanka’s Foreign Ministry.
High-Level Diplomatic Engagement
Wang Yi arrived in Colombo earlier in the day for a brief stopover while returning to China after an official visit to South Africa. During the meeting, both sides discussed post-cyclone rebuilding priorities and broader cooperation between the two countries.
Chinese officials reiterated Beijing’s willingness to assist Sri Lanka in its recovery efforts, underlining the long-standing partnership between the two nations.
Focus on Reconstruction and Recovery
Sri Lanka has been seeking international assistance to repair damaged infrastructure and support affected communities after the cyclone disrupted transport, power supply, and livelihoods in several regions.
The meeting also reviewed ongoing bilateral projects and explored ways to deepen cooperation in development and disaster resilience, officials said.
China has been a key development partner for Sri Lanka, providing financial assistance and infrastructure support over the years, particularly during times of economic and humanitarian stress.
