Six Killed in Landslide in Northwest Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Landslide in Northwest Pakistan: At least six people were killed after a landslide struck a mountainous area of northwest Pakistan on Wednesday, rescue officials said.

The incident took place in Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where heavy debris and mud swept down a hillside, burying several people in its path.

According to initial reports, rescue teams pulled out multiple victims from under the rubble. Two injured persons were shifted to a nearby hospital, but later died due to the severity of their injuries, taking the death toll to six.

Local authorities said rescue and clearance operations were continuing, while efforts were underway to assess the risk of further landslides in the area. Residents living in vulnerable locations were advised to remain alert.

Landslides Frequent in Pakistan’s Mountainous Regions

Landslides are common in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, particularly in mountainous districts such as Kohat, due to unstable terrain, deforestation, and seasonal weather conditions. The region is especially vulnerable during periods of rainfall and extreme weather.

Natural disasters, including landslides and flash floods, claim dozens of lives every year in Pakistan, underscoring the need for stronger disaster preparedness, early warning systems, and safer land-use planning.

Authorities said more information would be released as rescue operations progress.
