KATHMANDU: (Oct 23) Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Wednesday said her government is fully focused on ensuring that the March 5, 2026, general election is held in a peaceful, transparent, and fear-free environment.
Speaking at a Nepal Sambat celebration in Basantapur, Karki said the interim government has been holding continuous dialogue with political parties and the Gen Z community to restore normalcy and strengthen public trust after the nationwide uprising.
She clarified that the government’s focus on elections does not mean turning a blind eye to corruption or governance issues.
“Prioritizing elections doesn’t mean we are ignoring corruption. We are working within the Constitution to address the Gen Z movement’s call for integrity and accountability,” Karki said, urging all stakeholders to work collectively to safeguard democracy and curb corruption.
Her remarks come as the government moves ahead with preparations for next year’s polls amid growing pressure from youth groups demanding political reform and stronger accountability mechanisms.
