NEW DELHI/MUMBAI, Sept. 12: The Delhi and Bombay High Courts were evacuated on Friday after receiving bomb threat emails, prompting emergency searches across both premises before authorities declared the threats a hoax.
The email to the Delhi High Court, received around 8:40 a.m., claimed that judges’ chambers would “detonate after midday prayers” and mentioned several South Indian political leaders. Hours later, the Bombay High Court also received a similar threat, leading investigators to suspect the same individual behind both incidents.
Pattern of serial hoax threats emerges
According to Mumbai Police, the same sender is suspected in at least 12 previous hoax threats, including to the Bombay Stock Exchange in July, several schools in western suburbs, the Palghar district collector’s office, and even a five-star hotel in South Mumbai.
“The threat mail is always sent from an Outlook ID, often referencing South Indian politicians, actors, or bureaucrats, and claims the presence of RDX or IED,” said a senior police official.
Investigators believe the accused uses the dark web and Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to create untraceable email IDs, complicating the probe. The sender, who once signed off as “Comrade Pinari Vijayan,” continues to evade law enforcement despite repeated hoaxes over the past few months.
Both high courts resumed normal functioning after bomb squads declared the premises safe.
