New Delhi, Sep 29 – Bhutan-based Kholongchhu Hydro Power Ltd (KHPL) has signed a ₹4,829 crore term loan agreement with India’s state-owned Power Finance Corporation (PFC) to finance its upcoming 600 MW Kholongchhu Hydropower Project.
The project is being developed as a strategic partnership with Druk Green Power Corporation Ltd (DGPC) holding a 60% stake and Tata Power Company Ltd holding 40%.
Project Cost and Timeline
The total project cost is estimated at ₹6,900 crore, including financing charges. KHPL expects to commission the hydropower plant by 2029–2030.
The agreement also includes a standby credit facility of ₹950 crore to ensure financial stability during project execution, according to DGPC officials.
Once operational, the project is expected to boost Bhutan’s power generation capacity and further strengthen India-Bhutan energy cooperation, especially in the renewable energy sector.
