Nepal Marks 10th Constitution Day Amid Mourning, PM Sushila Karki Urges Dialogue for National Unity

Nepal observed its 10th Constitution Day with PM Sushila Karki calling for national dialogue and unity as the nation mourns victims of Gen Z protests.

KATHMANDU, Sept 19: Nepal observed its 10th Constitution Day on Friday with Prime Minister Sushila Karki calling on all Nepalis to protect and implement the Constitution adopted a decade ago, emphasizing that democracy thrives on dialogue and consensus.

Speaking at the main ceremony in Kathmandu, Karki said, “Democracy is about finding solutions together. Protecting and successfully implementing our Constitution is a shared responsibility.”

This year’s celebrations were significantly scaled down as the nation mourns the 72 people killed during last week’s Gen Z-led protests that toppled the previous government and brought Karki to power as Nepal’s first woman prime minister.

Nepal’s Constitution was promulgated on September 20, 2015, following years of political turmoil after the abolition of the monarchy.
